Contestants 1/31/2014
The highlight of the 2013-2014 cyclo-cross season gets underway this weekend. The best cyclo-cross riders from 21 nations are headed to Hoogerheide, the Netherlands, to contest the UCI Cyclo-Cross World Championships. Until now, the 2010 Cyclo-cross World Championships in Tabor, the Czech Republic, held the record for the highest numbers of participants. That record, of 229 athletes competing across the four categories, will be equalled this weekend in Hoogerheide, the Netherlands. On Saturday the Women and Junior Men ctegories are racing for the rainbow jersey, on Sunday it's time for the Men Under 23 and Elite Men categories.

Van der Poel: “World Championships are special to me” 1/29/2014
Even though he is a first-year espoir and not quite the favourite to win the race as he was last year with the juniors in Louisville,
Mathieu van der Poel is one of the riders who are expected to compete for the world title in his new category.
Nobody needs to doubt the motivation of the youngest member of the Poulidor-Van der Poel cycling dynasty.
“It is very special to get the chance to become world champion in front of a home crowd.”
